3/52 Is happiness a choice?

You’ve probably heard the following quotes:

“It takes more muscles to frown than it does to smile.” OR maybe… “Happiness is a choice, choose to be happy.”

This article from 2013: https://www.huffpost.com/entry/scientific-proof-that-you_n_4384433 claims that this mantra is backed up by scientific proof.

There’s even a book by Shawn Achor called “The Happiness Advantage” (it’s a pretty good read!)–which tries to convince its readers that happiness gives us an edge in attaining ‘success’ whatever that might mean for you.

Let’s start off with a warm-up:

a) Write down 10 things that make you happy.

b) Write down 10 things that make you mad/ your pet peeves.

c) Follow-up question…Which one was harder to list?

I personally think that it’s true. Happiness is a choice. While we don’t have control over things like the weather, other people, our current situation (like this pandemic)- we do have control regarding how we feel (as individuals). What are your thoughts on this?

Just a short blog today to get you thinking. For English practice, why not write a short essay regarding your thoughts on this topic. Or book a session with me to talk about it! Click the button and let’s start talking 🙂
